Many economists believe the global recession is fading and a slow recovery has begun. But where are the jobs? The rate of unemployment throughout the country remains high at around 9.7 percent. President Obama talks about "green jobs" as the next chapter of the US economy. What are they and who will benefit from the so-called greening of corporate America?
Outlook's Phil Vaughn recently spoke with Jigar Shah, founder and former owner of SunEdison, a solar power company based in Maryland. The business employs more than 500 people. As you will hear, Mr. Shah believes that "green" is not only good for the planet, it's essential for the growth of the economy.

It is the largest deposit of oil in the world, and it's located practically next door - but not many people know much about the Alberta Oil Sands and what they mean for our energy future. Last December, I sat down with Satya Das. He's an oil sands expert and, now, author of the new book "Green Oil: Clean Energy for the 21st Century?". In it, he outlines the huge potential of the oil sands, and the immense environmental challenge they pose.

Return to index of stories... 		Despite the current environmental challenges, Das points to a major study done in 2006 that outlines ways to make extraction from the Oil Sands carbon neutral by 2020.
And all of this is bound to be a topic of debate at the international environmental conference scheduled in Denmark this December.
